NextGen Sustainability Mentoring

Testimonials

“We urgently need partnerships across generations to protect our climate. Becoming a mentor was an ideal step for me to help build such partnerships beyond my industry and its stakeholders. The transformation of industries for climate protection requires passion, the building of joint visions, and clear targets. I find that the dialogues with my mentee are an amazing sounding board for discussing these transformations.”
Jens Hamprecht, Director Global Plastics Steering Committee, BASF SE (NextGen Mentor)

“The NextGen Sustainability Mentoring Programme has boosted my professional and personal development. My mentor Patrik – a green tech entrepreneur based in Nairobi (Kenya) – has helped me develop Purify City, a start-up that monitors air quality in Latin America. His experience on building green solutions in emerging markets has enabled me to overcome different challenges. Moreover, the NextGen Programme has allowed me to connect with environmental leaders at side events of the World Economic Forum in Davos.”
Laura Forero, M.A. Candidate in Economics & Managing Climate Solutions, University of St. Gallen (NextGen Mentee)

Programme overview

The NextGen Sustainability Mentoring Programme aims to promote integrative thought leadership and responsible action in business and sustainability. We foster the informal transfer of knowledge, relationship building, critical thinking, and professional excellence to tackle the most pressing sustainability challenges. We aim to enable HSG students to unfold their personal and professional potential for contributing to positive change in a world of finite resources and planetary boundaries. The initiative is part of the HSG Mentoring Programme.

As a Student you can apply for the 2023-2025 Mentoring Programme between Sept. 11 and Oct. 2, 2023. Please create your mentoring profile on the online platform and share your personal motivation, expectations and wishes for a NextGen Sustainability mentoring relationship.

The NextGen Mentoring is a new collaboration between the Mentoring Programme of the University of St.Gallen and the HSG Responsibility & Sustainabiltiy Department, supported by the WWF, the HSG Sustainability Alumni Club, ECOnnect and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network Switzerland (SDSN).

If you have the desire to start a sustainability focused mentoring relation please integrate the term “NextGen Sustainability Mentor” in one of the free text fields within your online application. You then have a higher chance to be matched with one of the professionals of the NextGen Sustainability Mentoring Sub-programme.

After the matching process (end of October), the Mentoring Programme will inform you and the mentors of the outcome of the allocation. You will then be invited to contact your mentor and to launch the relationship.

The Programme starts with the official HSG Mentoring Programme kick-off event in November.
